“Don’t stop, because you have changed my life!”

Isaura Gómez has been our resident in Villa Victoria for the past 5 years. She transferred from a different housing location, not supported by IBA’s Resident Services Program, that lacked the facilities she needed as a disabled person, and faced isolation and indifference. We sat down with Isaura and she told us how today her life “is not gray anymore” [...], because she now lives in a spacious unit, easy to navigate with her wheelchair, and property management comes as soon as she calls them when she has an issue. She now has a community that has “embraced” her and supported her. Furthermore, the Resident Services Program has helped her translate documents and phone calls, secure transportation services, and enroll her son in the Youth Development Program.

As the first point of contact for residents seeking support, IBA’s Resident Services Program (RSP) works to empower the tenants of IBA’s Villa Victoria affordable housing community by combining recreation, culture, health, educational, and case management services. Using a culturally responsive approach, RSP’s caring and bilingual team carries out the following services:

• Meeting basic needs through advocacy, case coordination, and both internal and external referrals

• Keeping residents active and connected to the community through social, recreational, and cultural programming

• Boosting health and wellness through fitness/exercise classes, workshops, and health screenings

• Accessing healthy food resources to combat food insecurity

With these services supporting them, residents are able to focus on their own personal growth, providing them with an opportunity to overcome the environmental obstacles that they face and strengthen their capacity to adapt to any of the challenges that life throws at them.
These opportunities for growth are why IBA is so grateful for all donations, big and small. Without the support of donors, these intervention services would not be possible.
