FACES OF IBA

FACES OF IBA

At IBA we are grateful for the talented, hardworking, and committed staff who all share the same goal: to empower and engage individuals and families to improve their lives through high-quality affordable housing, education, and arts programs.

This month, we want to recognize three new team members who dedicate their time and energy to ensure that the goals for our programs and services are being achieved.

What is your role and when did you start working for IBA?

As of 11/28/2022 I am a Resident Service Coordinator

What do you do on a daily basis and what are the goals of your position?

I am still in training and have been visiting many sites, and shadowing some of my coworkers. My goal is to learn all aspects of the role and be able to provide support to residents and help them meet or guide them to achieve their needs whether is social, health related or any assistance in any circumstance that may arise

Why did you decide to join IBA?

I consider IBA a strong organization with high standards and values, with a great mission in servicing the community who values and rewards its employees for their hard work.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my family, going to the house of worship and cooking puertorican food or baking pastries.

What is your role and when did you start working for IBA?

At IBA I work within the department of Resident Services as a Resident Service Coordinator. I began working with IBA August 15th 2022.

What do you do on a daily basis and what are the goals of your position?

As a Resident Service Coordinator my daily work duties consist of ensuring that the residents within the IBA community are being thought of and provided with different services & programs in order for them to prosper against some of the emotional, educational and economical struggles that they face on a daily basis. I handle different levels of case management scenarios to coordinate and connect residents to needed programs and agencies given their area of need. In addition, I also facilitate and organize events to bring the residents together. In doing so, they are able to create bonds, have entertainment and take in educational and informative ideas for them individually, as well as to bring back to their families. The goals of my position is to positively create impact within the lives of the residents within the realms of financial literacy, education, economic stability and health. We build strong connections with the residents and take pride in extending ourselves to them as family and a resource. Depending on the age we bring them guidance and access to programs they may not necessarily know about.

Why did you decide to join IBA?

I consider myself very lucky to have found IBA. After graduating college at such a time of the peak of the pandemic, it was extremely difficult finding something stable and most importantly something that I’d love to do. What drew me to IBA was not only the work I’m currently doing, which I love, but also how much care and love I receive from the faculty members. To work in an environment where you're cared for as an individual trying to grow in your desired professional field is incredibly hard to find. Growing up in a high crime environment always instilled in me the desire to make a difference in impacted lower class communities. IBA has gifted me the opportunity to give back while I continue to grow and learn in my desired field of study.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Two years ago my answer would be different but I have reached an age and time period in my life where I’m focusing on real life matters. I’ve come to learn that outside of work I like to catch up on what's happening in the world whether it may be through media or reading specific articles. I enjoy watching a lot of movies. It is how I travel without actually traveling. Lastly, checking in on family members making sure that they are alright and doing well.

What is your role and when did you start working for IBA?

Institutional Advancement Coordinator and was hired in the early weeks of October in 2022.

What do you do on a daily basis and what are the goals of your position?

I oversee management of the donor database, coordinate specific communication and social media initiatives, and provide administrative support for the Institutional Advancement team. The goals for my position are to help the Chief Development Officer and the Grant Writer to get the support they need in order for the Institutional Advancement Team to thrive.

Why did you decide to join IBA?

I joined IBA because I share the same values of IBA on the importance of fostering and amplifying the community, especially of Latinx. As a First-Generation Dominican-American from Lawrence, I experienced growing up in affordable housing and I know first hand how frustrating and stressful it can be when not having enough money to travel or be able to know when the next meal would be. Due to my childhood experience, I can resonate with the residents on why it’s beneficial to have not only a community that is shared in culture, but also the resources needed to thrive in an ever changing world. Learning about IBA’s history and working in a community like IBA has been a rewarding and an inspirational experience.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

My favorite thing to do outside of work is being able to spend time with my family. When I’m not spending my time with my family, I am usually mentoring for Chica Project or practicing my cooking skills.
