Statement on Recent Events
Our hearts are heavy for the families and communities reeling from the recent
murders of eight people in Atlanta and the increase in hate and violence that
Asian and Pacific Islander individuals are facing around the country. Racism,
xenophobia, and gender-based hatred and violence must be stopped.
More than 50 years ago, IBA’s founders came together to fight back against the
discrimination and displacement facing our community. Today, IBA is a vibrant
community that celebrates all its residents, and we remain united against the
legacy of systematic and institutionalized racism in our country. We are
committed to standing in solidarity with and working to support our community
members who identify as Asian, as well as any of our Sisters and Brothers who
are threatened by increased violence, discrimination and injustice.
We believe in the power of community to create a brighter future. Let’s build it
together.
