Festival Betances is Back – En Vivo!
July 16, 2022
Plaza Betances, 100 W. Dedham St., South End, Boston
For five decades, Festival Betances has been a highlight in New England’s Latinx community and a staple on Boston’s Summer Calendar. After two years of virtual festivals, IBA is thrilled to bring together our community and our neighbors from the South End, Greater Boston, and beyond to celebrate Latinx music and culture.
This year Festival Betances, From Bomba to Reggaeton, will take us on a journey from traditional and folkloric Afro-Caribbean rhythms to contemporary urban beats. Featuring top Puerto Rican and Latinx artists along with family-friendly events, including: a parade, traditional cuisine, arts and crafts, a greased pole competition (el palo encebao), children’s activities like face painting and inflatables, and other treats that highlight the diversity of Latinx culture.
We expect to once again bring together a multicultural audience that is at least 3,000 strong!
Don’t miss your chance to sponsor and be a part of this historic event in the heart of Boston!

Through the years, Betances’ stage has seen multiple musical and dance performances, ranging from local and regional acts to international Latin music icons such as, Larry Harlow from Fania All Stars, Tony Vega, and Tito Rojas. The Festival is named after Ramón Emeterio Betances, a Puerto Rican patriot whose medical contributions benefited Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. He also became a leader in awakening national consciousness in Puerto Rico, and is considered one of the foremost intellectuals of the 19th century.
