IBA’s Bilingual Preschool Celebrates Spring with Talent Show

In recent studies it has been proven that children from a Hispanic background are not speaking Spanish at home anymore, in spite of their parents’ best efforts. Studies also show that bilingualism provides critical problem solving skills and helps develop a child’s mind as they grow into fruitful learners. This is why IBA’s bilingual preschool offers families the support they need when raising their children in multicultural environments, as is our preschool, our city, and most of the nation. At IBA, we not only teach them a bilingual curriculum, our mission is also to reinforce the same core values that parents teach at home. The early years are key for child development, it is a time when they learn how to express themselves and interact with the world around them. As Marioska Medina shared, her daughter Keisha has made positive changes since starting at the preschool a year back. “My girl has learned a lot. She never played with other kids before, now she does. She’s also learned how to eat, it used to be very difficult to get her to eat.” We teach our little ones a strong curriculum to prepare them for kindergarten emphasizing reading, communication, and always letting their individuality and unique personalities shine. Every opportunity to see them perform is a great occasion. Last week, every student at IBA’s preschool, from the youngest to the graduating class gave a beautiful performance to an audience bursting with proud parents, grandparents, and other family members. Before beginning, our CEO, Dr. Vanessa Calderón-Rosado gave opening remarks, welcoming the families and emphasizing how much it means to us that they have chosen our preschool. Helping with your child’s education is a job we take very seriously. Their spring costumes were made with the help of teachers and parents, and they each played a different role. All the classrooms represented a stage of spring and they each sang songs, some in Spanish and others in English, all having to do with their spring element. The children were happy to see their parents faces in the crowd of spectators, waving and smiling, and one little girl was so excited she had to loudly say, “Mami thanks for coming to my talent show!” [caption id="attachment_6201" align="aligncenter" width="724"]IMG_0623 This Spring, caterpillars have turned into butterflies.[/caption] Mirella Cruz has been to three IBA preschool talent shows, as her daughter, Cielo, started her education with us 2 years ago when she was just 2 years old. “The preschool is more like a community, it’s really close knitted,” she said. “Sometimes the little ones don’t know how to adjust when they’re away from their parents, so I believe that the fact they’re so close, the teachers and the parents, it helps the little ones adjust better.” After each classroom finished their show, parents took to taking pictures of their excited children. It was truly a special event, we couldn’t be prouder of our little students.
